Fanfiction - Pinpricks II.

Title: Pinpricks II. Electric Boogaloo!
Fandom: Bomberman (Edenverse).
Pairing: Zoniha/Regulus.
Words: 1992.
Summary: These two are so epic that they need a second themeset to fully express their epicness.
Rating: PG-13 for the usual.
Notes: OH MY GODS, I'VE UPDATED MY WRITING!!!!!

Except, of course, it's for a silly little thing that no one cares for. HA!

Uses the Beta themeset from [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence. Same other warnings as before: fanon oddities, AUs, what-ifs, yadda yadda. I had like half of this lying around for months before I picked it up again and vomited out the rest of it last night. I miss doing fanfic even though I’ve done so much worldbuilding in Soraverse that it almost qualifies as origfic anyway. And holy crap, I’ve really abused the semicolon in this one, looool. *sends the semicolon to rehab and therapy* Well, that, and the em-dash. But the em-dash should be used to it by now. Plus it's not abuse if the em-dash is screaming your name.

#01 – Walking

She longs to hold his hand as they're walking the streets of Cerbera, but she knows he dislikes any gesture that might make him look "weak" to the other predators in this urban jungle; and so, to prevent her own hands from straying, she crosses her arms to look as proud and uncaring as he does – though to her it feels more like she's protecting her own heart.

#02 – Waltz

Little Eirena drags her father into an awkward, shambling waltz around the living room, with Zoniha giggling madly as she looks on.

#03 – Wishes

"There is one thing you wish for more than ultimate power," the seer says to Regulus, and he thinks of Zoniha, wishing the seer were right.

#04 – Wonder

The two of them can only stare in awe at the devastation that their sparring had brought upon the forest around them.

#05 – Worry

He always tells her that he never worries about her, believing that his faith in her independence and self-reliance to be the highest of compliments, but she only wonders whether it means that she’s not even worth worrying about.

#06 – Whimsy

Just to mess with her mind, Regulus scribbles smiley faces all over the note he leaves on the fridge telling her he's going to meet with Behemos.

#07 - Waste/Wasteland

Even in a land worn barren by the ravages of a zombie disaster, rumor spreads through the oases of a legendary duo traveling the dusty, dangerous roads: darkness and light together extinguishing the rotting menaces so that the world can build itself anew.

#08 - Whiskey and rum

When Zoniha comes back from a particularly frustrating conversation with two of the other Consorts in Cerbera, she finds a fresh rum cake waiting for her on the table and a bottle of whisky along with a note from Regulus warning her not to indulge too much.

#09 – War

"If love is a battlefield, then you of all people should know how to navigate it," she says to him with a smile.

#10 – Weddings

Their “wedding” is little more than a visit to city hall for a marriage license and other related paperwork, but ancient memories of a family wedding on a distant planet linger in Regulus’ thoughts, and he asks Zoniha to dress in white for their dinner later, in lieu of the traditional Odollamese green for new brides.

#11 – Birthday

He’s stuck on filling out a form because he doesn’t yet know how to convert his Terran birthday into the equivalent units on Thantos, so she suggests that he just use hers.

#12 – Blessing

She found it a bit depressing that she had to count "being bought up by a newly-minted crime lord with a dangerous reputation to be his advisor/whore" as one of her main blessings, but it was better than being alone.

#13 – Bias

“Sorry, Zhae,” Zoniha says, laughing, “but Regulus totally wears that dress better than your little Shiro."

#14 – Burning

Priding himself on keeping his emotions at sub-zero temperatures, Regulus is ill-prepared to deal with the blinding hot rage that flares up when he learns of a particularly gruesome plan from his enemies to "deal" with Zoniha.

#15 – Breathing

He uses the last of his strength to crawl over to her unconscious body curled up on the floor, determined not to die until he can hear her breathe one last time.

#16 – Breaking

Even with the knowledge that the injuries will heal fairly quickly, Zoniha has to swallow the urge to cry every time she hears the sound of bones being shattered whenever the Abraxion-possessed Regulus throws himself against the prison of solid light she's had to create for him.

#17 – Belief

In the early years of knowing him, she never truly believed that he would ever come to her aid when she needed it; and when she finally let herself believe, he rewarded her with indifference.

#18 – Balloon

She celebrates their shared birthday with a red velvet cake (it was her turn this year to bake the cake) and a bouquet of black and white balloons tied to one of the kitchen chairs.

#19 – Balcony

Regulus heads out onto the condo balcony for his nightly meditation...very pointedly ignoring the fact that Zoniha’s lacy underthings are drying on the railings.

#20 – Bane

"How the hell are you so damn fit when all I ever see you eat is dessert?" a bewildered Zoniha demands of Regulus.

#21 – Quiet

It’s too quiet whenever Zoniha’s not around, so Regulus likes to fill the silence by playing some of her favorite albums over the stereo system in the living room, though some of them are from genres that he doesn’t really like.

#22 – Quirks

He notices, not for the first time, what an inelegant sleeper Zoniha is: arms akimbo, legs splayed, and mouth dropped open as though she's going to start snoring at any moment.

#23 – Question

Zhael eyes Zoniha’s new engagement ring, and asks whether Regulus finally “popped the question” to her; Zoniha snickers and jokes that it was more like he dropped it on her head.

#24 – Quarrel

Of all the things wrong with their relationship, Zoniha thought, how was it that the first major thing they quarreled over was what kind of car they needed?

#25 – Quitting

“Given how long it's been since I quit being your Consort, I'm surprised you haven't got a replacement yet," she says with an inquiring eyebrow; he responds that he was merely too busy to bother, but the truth is that he held onto the irrational hope (proven rational over time) that she would come back.

#26 – Jump

On her way out to the convenience store, Regulus asks Zoniha to get him strawberry milk and a carton of ice cream, leading her to jokingly ask whether he also wants a copy of Shonen Jump with all that sugar.

#27 – Jester

In the disarray of the now-abandoned bar, Regulus finds a joker card that has a message scrawled on it from Zoniha, telling him where he can find the bastards that fucked them both over in a crucial negotiation last week.

#28 – Jousting

Their peaceful walk on the considerably nicer-looking east side of Cerbera is momentarily shattered by the clash of trash lid shields and metal pipes as two water jousters go at it on a nearby river.

#29 – Jewel

"You're not at all interested in sleeping with the Crown Jewel of Madam Lo's?" she dramatically asks him at their first meeting, a look of mock hurt on her face; he opens his mouth for a clever retort that quickly flies his mind when he realizes that he is, in fact, mildly interested.

#30 – Just

Even in these more peaceful times with him, Zoniha sometimes hates herself for never being able to think of an appropriate way to get back at Regulus for murdering her during the BHB affair; then it occurs to her one night that, since his intent in the act was to rid himself of the inconvenience of her presence, there was no better way to get revenge than by proceeding to come back and attach herself to him for all eternity.

#31 – Smirk

The picture of Regulus that Zoniha keeps in her wallet is a rare candid shot of him where he's actually smiling, taken after he'd just heard from one of his subordinates that an annoying rival of his in the Tail of Cerbera had met an untimely and deliciously ironic end.

#32 – Sorrow

He refuses to recognize the sorrow that eats at him day after day since Zoniha's departure, and instead berates himself for making the mistake to be emotionally dependent on Zoniha for anything – even for something as little as being able to see her smile at him every day.

#33 – Stupidity

He should’ve known better than to press her on the issue of her multitude of exes.

#34 – Serenade

In their last moments on the mortal plane, before they both ascend to the Aethyric Citadel to await their next reincarnations, she sings to him a ridiculously upbeat and catchy pop tune from two centuries ago.

#35 – Sarcasm

The first time that sweet, quiet Eirena responds with a witheringly sarcastic retort, her parents give each other long looks, trying to figure out if either of them had been responsible for corrupting their angelic little girl in such a way.

#36 – Sordid

It was inevitable that sordid gossip about the Crown of the Obsidian Phoenix and his Consort would spread like a disease through the Cerberan underground, but where Regulus mostly ignored it, Zoniha took great pleasure in encouraging the wild speculation – even tossing some of her own fabrications into the mix.

#37 – Soliloquy

She sometimes catches him muttering to himself in his native language, even though it's been a long time since he first came to Odollam, and she wonders whether he would talk to her more if she learned to speak like he did.

#38 – Sojourn

Zoniha had only intended to stay in Paris long enough to finish a series of couture fashion shoots for Vogue, but as soon as she laid eyes on the dictionary definition of Tall, Dark, and Handsome working at a local pastry shop, she knew she was never going to leave the city.

#39 – Share

Whenever she finds Regulus eating one of his beloved desserts, she likes to annoy him by stealing bites of it without asking his permission.

#40 – Solitary

He often wishes that he could bring Zoniha with him on his mercenary runs as Bulzeeb, but she's the only one he can completely trust to keep order in the Obsidian Phoenix in his absence.

#41 – Nowhere

She wasn't sure that staying with him was going to lead anywhere, but the journey was sure to be interesting.

#42 – Neutral

Regulus normally doesn't notice or care about Zoniha's choice of clothing, but even he has to stifle a grimace when he sees a picture of her wearing a ruffled cocktail dress in the blandest shade of beige imaginable.

#43 – Nuance

He starts feeling annoyed when Zoniha says that she can't tell the difference between the cookies he just made and the ones she bought from the store a few days ago, then realizes belatedly (read: after she begins laughing at him) that she's just kidding.

#44 – Near

Like any other man with a working libido, he gets aroused whenever Zoniha presses herself against him, but it's not until he pins her during their first serious sparring session that he finds himself actually wanting to fuck her.

#45 – Natural

"Yes, they're real," Zoniha loudly declares when she catches Regulus' eyes straying down from her face, to which he deadpans: "I would hope so, since only the diamonds' authenticity would begin to justify the ridiculousness of that necklace you've got on."

#46 – Horizon

After checking in on Ashtarth's progress with building the Gravity Generator in Philomel, Zoniha and Regulus spend time exploring the surrounding area, basking in the vast emptiness of the sky planet.

#47 – Valiant

A friend remarks that it was pretty brave of Zoniha to go after Regulus into a rapidly burning factory, but Zoniha shakes her head and replies: "Not brave – just clingy."

#48 – Virtuous

Regulus admits that he finds himself slightly amused and confused that some people in Cerbera consider him and Zoniha to be, in their words, "pretty good for being bad guys"; Zoniha smirks and reminds him that they're also "pretty bad for being good guys".

#49 – Victory

"You know, if you can't beat me in a Bomberman game, you're not going to have much luck against the real deal when you go up against him again," she tells him after winning yet another match in battle mode.

#50 – Defeat

After years of struggle, he finally admits to himself that he’s lost his heart to her...but all things considered, he deems it acceptable collateral.
